The Darien Summer Nights concert series continues Friday, July 13, with the rocking blues of Mars Project, from 6-9, in the Grove Street Plaza.

The series was launched in 2009 by Darien residents and downtown developers David Genovese and Penny Glassmeyer, who head up Baywater Properties and Grove Street Plaza, respectively. This season of Friday evening musice kicked off June 29.

Mars Project consists of percussionist Mike Marble, bassist Angel Rissoff and guitarist and singer John “Ratso” Gerardi.

The remaining Friday Summer Concert Series schedule is: July 20: Gunsmoke (country and western), July 27: P.J. Pacifico (rock/pop music) Aug. 31: Matt Criscuolo and the Jazz Activists, Aug. 10: The Afterthoughts (eclectic mix of rock, rhythm & blues, and soul), Aug. 10: Leslie Costa & Trio (contemporary), Aug. 24: Twisted Resistor (music of the ’60s),  Aug. 3: Matt Criscuolo and the Jazz Activists. For more details see dariensummernights.com.

The concerts are free. All that Genovese and Glassmeyer ask in return is that you shop in town.

“If you have a choice, dine or shop locally, because by doing so you are helping create a more vibrant downtown for Darien, and you enable all of us to give back in this way,” Genovese said.
