SWIMMING
It was July 5, and once again tradition made its annual big splash with the Darien Club Swim League Association Relays.
The host Middlesex Swim and Tennis Club swam away with it scoring 212 points for first.
Woodway Country Club placed second with 142 points followed by the Country Club of Darien with 138.
Rounding out the field, The Tokeneke Club had 94 points and WeeBurn Country Club gathered 92 points.
There were 22 relays in total, with swimmers ranging in age from six to 17. Middlesex took first in 15 of the relays and set five meet records, showing the depth and talent of its swimmers.
In the first event, the boys age group medley relay, the team of Alex Dehmel, Clay Holmes, Robbie Waters and Austin Dehmel set a new mark of 1:09.53 with their win.
The girls age group medley relay also won with a record time of 1:07.85.
Relay participants were: Claire Treesh, Courtney Ferreira, Emma Jaques and Hannah Knight.
Another record fell in the 8-and-under boys free relay where Luke Dehmel, Andrew Jaroch, Will Dehmel and Andrew Pasierb posted a winning time of 1:25.74.
The team of Carl Hunter, Lauren Rutledge, Becca Maroney and Christian Trifone broke the 14-and-under co-ed free relay record in a time of 55.63.
And the girls crescendo relay of Kelsey Olvany, Lauren Rutledge, Courtney Ferreira, Emma Jaques and Hannah Knight finished with a new record of 2:40.40.
The evening ended with the traditional staff relay, won by the Country Club of Darien.
