The library will show the Academy Award-winning silent film “The Artist,” starring Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller, on Friday June 29, at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30.
Dujardin won the Oscar for best actor for his performance as George Valentin, a silent movie superstar in 1927 as he begins to see his fame eclipsed by the rising popularity of talkies. His destiny is intertwined with that of Peppy Miller, played by Bejo, who begins her career as an extra in one of Valentin’s films, and reaches superstardom herself.
In addition to Dujardin’s Oscar, the 2011 film also earned Academy Awards for best picture, costume design, directing and best original score.
