Last day of school pot party leads to arrest

The Inwood Road home of a vacationing family became the temporary gathering spot for several Darien teens on Thursday, June 14, the graduation day of Darien High School.

One of the teens, 18-year-old John Connery, faces misdemeanor trespass charges and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, an infraction. Connery would not identify any of the other teens who were also at the house, police said.

A neighbor of the home called police at 11:45 a.m. after seeing teenagers on the property in question. Police arrived and saw two kids playing basketball, who then took off running when they saw the officers. Four more kids were seen fleeing from the detached garage, police said.

The officers entered the garage and an odor of marijuana permeated the air, police said. They saw a 10-inch clear glass bong on a small table surrounded by chairs, and 15 partially smoked marijuana joints, or roaches.

While investigating the area, police saw Connery enter a Ford Explorer. Connery admitted to having been on the property, according to police. He was released to his father and is scheduled for court on Monday, June 25.
