Tennis great Gigi Fernandez will be the director of tennis at Chelsea Piers Connecticut. She was introduced at a tennis open house on June 16.
“I am thrilled with the quality of coaches that we have brought aboard to run our adult and junior programs here at Chelsea Piers Connecticut,” Fernandez said. “Our coaching staff is a mix of established area pros combined with experienced coaches who are new to the community. I look forward to building the most dominant and comprehensive tennis program in the area,” she said.
During her 14-year WTA Tour career, Fernandez won 17 Grand Slam doubles crowns, as well as two Olympic Gold Medals. Other members of the coaching staff include:
Faycal Rhazali, head professional, adult development; Jenne Loeb, club professional; Robert Bianco, assistant director of tennis and lead professional, and Sasha Bluestone, club professional.
Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) is a 400,000-square footnsports and recreation facility in Stamford. It is slated to open in July and will consist of several core sports facilities encompassing more than 20 sports, including skating, aquatics, gymnastics, baseball, tennis and squash.
