Letter: Support McKinney in Republican primary

To the Editor:

A reminder to Darien Republicans about the important primary election for governor and lieutenant governor scheduled for Tuesday Aug. 12. I will be voting for John McKinney for governor, and urge other Republicans to do so as well.

The son of the late Congressman Stewart McKinney, John currently serves as the minority leader of the Connecticut state senate, a position that has given him a deep understanding of how our state government should work for all Connecticut citizens. He has specific plans to cut state spending, including re-opening the state union contracts to get a handle on unfunded pension and health care liabilities. John will rationalize our tax code and regulations to make Connecticut a place where commerce can thrive again. His goal is to make the government smaller and less intrusive, while ensuring what government does is done efficiently.

The governor’s race is vitally important this year. Four more years of the Malloy administration would be a disaster for Connecticut. We need to elect a Republican to reverse this downward spiral, and in my eyes, John McKinney and his lieutenant governor running mate Dave Walker are the best equipped for the job.

Please join me in supporting John McKinney and Dave Walker on Aug. 12. If you plan to be out of town, absentee ballots are available now at the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall .

I generally like the platform that John McKinney is running on for governor. But his proposal for a 0% tax rate up to $75K is a terrible idea. Connecticut needs to broaden the base and lower rates. This does the opposite, resulting in more and more people that have no stake in lowering government spending. Everybody needs to have some skin in the game.
