Darien man, with gun, arrested for choking wife

An argument over photographs ended with a Noroton Avenue resident choking his wife on Tuesday, May 15.

Darien Police received a phone call from the couple’s daughter, who told police that her father had attempted to strangle her mother. Police said that while the couple argued over the pictures in question, the husband threw a potted plant out the back door into the yard. He then came up behind his wife and placed both hands around her neck and choked her, police said.

Police also found a 9-mm handgun in the man’s pocket after they arrived to the home, police said. The man denied choking his wife, and said he never touched her or threatened her. His wife denied medical attention, and there were no visible wounds on her neck, according to police.

The husband was held on a $10,000 bond until his court hearing the next day. He was charged with disorderly conduct and felony strangulation. His next court date was set for Tuesday, June 19.
