UPDATE FRIDAY 5:30 AM — Darien public schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 8 according to Schools Superintendent Stephen Falcone, due to the coming storm.
THURSDAY 4:33 — With a blizzard warning in effect beginning at 6 a.m Friday through Saturday at 1 p.m., a call will be made on whether Darien schools will be open Friday by 5:30 a.m., according to Dr. Stephen Falcone, superintendent of schools.
That decision could be closure, an early morning dismissal or an an early afternoon dismissal, he told The Darien Times Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snow and strong winds in Southern Fairfield County, with accumulations of 18 to 24 inches of snow. Winds could be up to 45 mph. The strongest winds and heaviest snow will occur Friday evening into Saturday morning.
The snow and winds will make for dangerous driving conditions and visibilities could be near-zero during white-out conditions. Travel is not recommended during these conditions, but if you must travel, have a survival kit with you.
