Darien homeowners aged 65 and older may be eligible for property tax relief, announced Anthony Homicki, town assessor, on Monday.
Applications are being accepted now and must be filed before Wednesday, May 15. Any homeowner reaching the age of 65 on or before Dec. 31, 2012, and qualifying within the income limits, can come into the assessor’s office and apply.
To be eligible, annual income must not exceed $49,900 for married couples or $42,500 for single persons, Homicki said. All income, including social security must be reported. Documentation of proof, such as a copy of a 2012 Social Security 1099 form and a copy of a 2012 income tax return, is needed.
