On Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium, the Board of Education will hold its annual Public Hearing on the Superintendent’s Proposed 2013-14 Budget for the Darien Public Schools. On behalf of the Council of Darien School Parents, we encourage all parents and community members to attend and to make your voices heard in support of the budget.
The proposed budget for the 2013-14 school year comes in below the five year projection, acknowledges the costs associated with educating a growing school population, adoption of the Common Core and other unfunded state and federal mandates, and the need to maintain safe and up-to-date classrooms and school facilities. It reflects the costs associated with continuing the high-level of learner centered instruction, challenging curriculum and instructional support we currently offer our students. There are no new initiatives.
The superintendent’s proposed budget for 2013-14 is a thoughtful, financially responsible and respectful approach to educating our town’s children and is deserving of approval, as presented.
Please join us on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. to support the school budget.
