UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: A water main break on Mansfield Avenue has disrupted service to 70 homes near Ox Ridge School, according to Peter Fazekas, a spokesman for Aquarion Water.
The main break occurred sometime during the late morning, and service is expected to be restored before midnight or as early as 10 p.m. Aquarion shut the water down at 4:30 p.m., and kept it going so Ox Ridge School could still have water, Fazekas said. It’s still unclear what caused the break, but Fazekas said it’s most likely due to fluctuations in temperature.
Aquarion also sent a Code Red message to all affected customers, the spokesman said.
The roads affected are as follows: from 350 to 459 Mansfield Avenue; from 561 to 600 Middlesex Road; all of Cloudy Lane; all of Crooked Mile Road; all of Half Mile Road; all of Shagbark Road; all of Tower Drive; all of Tower Lane; all of Valley Forge Road; all of Renfield Lane; and Ox Ridge School.
If the water appears discolored once service is restored to affected homes, Aquarion advises letting the water run for five to 10 minutes until the water runs clear.
Other Darien homes are not affected and should be able to use water with no problems, Fazekas said. No other towns are affected either.
An open fire hydrant was reported by police on Mansfield Avenue, near Ox Ridge School, on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 15. Aquarion Water Company is aware of the situation as well. The customer service line reports a water main break, and says that water will be back within four to six hours.
