Selectmen unsure of November plans, Stevenson wants feedback

November is still almost 11 months away, when the town’s Board of Selectmen will be up for re-election.

Democrat David Bayne, who has served as a selectman since 2007, had no comment on November’s election, and fellow Democrat John Lundeen, who lost a bid for first selectman to current First Selectman Jayme Stevenson in 2011, said it was too early to think about campaigning.“Give us some time to think about doing our jobs in government,” he said.

Republicans Dave Campbell, who served his first term on the board as first selectman from 2009-11, and selectman since, also had no comment on the election. Republican Jerry Nielsen said he enjoys what he is doing, but it is too soon to make any decisions.

Stevenson, a Republican who won a seat on the board in 2009 as a joint ticket with Nielsen and Campbell, opted to run for the top office in 2011.

She told The Darien Times she was carefully “weighing personal and professional factors” in her decison to run again for first selectman in 2013.

One point Stevenson made was whether she had “the right” to run again, saying she hoped to hear back from Darienietes to give her feedback on the job she’s done, and whether they wanted her to be first selectman for another two years
