Dog found in plastic bag, later euthanized

Employees of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza found a male mixed-breed beagle that had been placed in a black plastic bag and then covered with a cardboard box on Sunday, Dec. 30.

Darien Police responded to the incident of animal cruelty at approximately 10:40 a.m. The dog had been placed beside a fence near the restaurant’s dumpster. The brown dog did not have a collar or tags, police said. The dog appeared old, very dirty, and may have been injured as it was unable to move.

It appears that the dog had been at the location for several hours or more, police said. The officer took the dog to a veterinary hospital for evaluation, and, based on its extremely poor condition, a veterinarian decided that euthanasia  was the most appropriate course of action.
