A high wind warning is in effect until noon today in Darien. Rain and possibly a thunderstorm is predicted before 11, then rain between 11 and 12. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall with a high temperature near 51 degrees. windy, with a southeast wind 21 to 26 mph becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
As of 9 a.m., 11 Darien customers were without power according to CL&P.
The National Weather Service warned that winds of this magnitude could down trees, tree limbs, power lines and holiday decorations as well as cause possible property damage. Driving high profile vehicles could be difficult on elevated roadways and bridges.
Connecticut Light & Power advised Darien that with the high winds expected that may include 40-50 mph gusts tonight, tomorrow and into the weekend, the company is currently planning for a Level 1 event in accordance with its 2012 Emergency Preparedness and Response plan:
- Additional lineworkers are being placed on call
- Notifying employees with wires down and damage assessment storm roles
- Notifying outside contractors of the potential for restoration work
