Newtown shooting suspect still unnamed, Ryan Lanza no longer confirmed suspect

FRIDAY 4:05 — Ryan Lanza no longer confirmed as a suspect in the shooting. Conflicting reports on possible suspect.

2:30 PM — CNN is reporting the shooting suspect is Ryan Lanza, a man in his 20′s. CBS also reported that Lanza’s mother is a teacher at the Newtown school the shooting took place.

12:20 — Darien police will be patrolling the school grounds with more frequency Friday after a school shooting in Newtown according to Captain Fred Komm. Darien High School also has  an officer in the high school acting as SRO with a marked patrol vehicle parked outside.

11:49 — There was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Friday, Dec. 14. While some school districts closer to Newtown, and including Newtown, are on lockdown, Darien Schools are operating under a normal schedule.

Despite that normal schedule, Darien Schools Superintendent Stephen Falcone said school personnel are at a “heightened awareness” due to the shooting.

Reports from people at scene indicate that an adult at the school has been killed. A teacher was shot in the foot and some children suffered minor injuries.

Schools in Newtown and Bethel remain in lockdown.

The Internet is being flooded with contradictory information regarding the number of casualties and status of the situation.

Reports on the number of shooters range from one, who was reportedly killed, to two, to three and several other rumors.
