Former Wave and college star lacrosse player, and present Stevens Institute of Technology men’ lacrosse associate head coach Matt Madalon, won the IMLCA Division III Outstanding Assistant Coach Award last week.
Madalon is in his sixth season with nationally ranked Stevens mens’ lax.
Last season Madalon contributed from behind the bench as the Ducks won their first Empire 8 Conference Championship in the program’s 127-year history.
The Ducks made it to round two in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Plus the Ducks had a best ever 17-3 mark.
At the Nike/IMLCA Luncheon this was reportedly said of Madalon as he received his honor: “Coach Madalon has been with Stevens for five years and is a tremendous asset to our program.
“He is a quality assistant coach and has really coordinated our offense to produce some excellent numbers here at Stevens.”
Reportedly added coach Gene Peluso: “Coach Madalon has been my assistant for three years at Stevens and was the assistant for two years before my arrival.
“Going on his sixth year, he has been an excellent recruiter. He had worked hard during the period of time when Stevens was looking for a new head coach and his work and passion for Stevens lacrosse was the reason I was able to come in and hit the ground running four years ago
“We had four offensive All Americans in 2012 and they have all benefited from coach Madalon’s excellent ability to coach and motivate student-athletes.
“His longevity at Stevens is a product of his passion to our student-athletes and this program.”
Stevens begins the 2013 season on Feb. 20 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
