That could be the reaction when some hear about a vacancy on the Planning & Zoning Commission.
While it’s true that often the P&Z Commission’s agendas appear long and onerous, and meetings can be equally as long, the commission is one of the most important in town.
The P&Z Commission deals with and makes decisions on may issues that affect Darienites on a daily basis, and many that have proven contentious over the years — affordable housing, new businesses, new restaurants, home and commercial expansion, and of course, field lights.
And while this vacancy will likely be filled without fanfare next week, the next election season could prove to be an exciting one in town.
While many eyes will be focused on the first selectman race in November, if there is one — there are also four seats up for re-election on the Planning & Zoning Commission, three Republicans, and one Democrat — four seats out of six.
It’s an important race, this vacancy is a reminder to the town that it is one deserving of the town’s attention.
