Wave Peeks: New coach Lauten opens up with a win

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The coach-Katie Lauten-era began for DHS with a 55-42 win at Wilton Field House on Wednesday.

Darien girls basketball had 18 points apiece from Meg Marren and Kelly Karczewski.

The Wave (1-0) led 17-8 after one quarter and 28-21 at the half.

Karczewski tossed three 3-pointers, two two’s and went an eagle-eye 5-for-6 at the foul line.

Marren shot six buckets and was 6-for-15 at the line.

Kate Bushell scored 12 points with three three’s, going 3-for-7 at the stripe.

Darien was outscored 11-9 in the third quarter and drove home the win with an 18-10 advantage in the fourth.

Emily Stein sank a 3-pointer, Ali Aparicio fired a field goal, Claire Naughton did the same.

Wilton scoring: Erica Meyer, 11 points, five field goals, 1-2 foul shots; Erin Cunningham eight points, four field goals; Hayley English three points, field goal, 1-4 foul shots; McKenna Pearsal, two points: one field goal; Alyssa Malvarosa10 points, three field goals, 4-10 foul shots; Casey Pearsall two points, field goal; Curi Cannarino six points, three field goals.
