Squirt B wins Can-Am

Squirt B took home the gold going 4-1.

HOCKEY

The Darien Squirt B traveled north to Lake Placid for the traditional Can-Am hockey tournament recently.

Darien opened up on the USA Rink facing off against Andover Warriors.

Samuel Erickson scored first for Darien on a perfect pass from Nolan Bryson in the first period.

Andover netted one in the second period and another in the third to defeat Darien 2-1. Jamie Mullin was solid between the pipes despite the loss.

Later that day Darien faced off against Lake Placed Blue Bombers in the 1932 Arena.  Darien dominated.

It was Gavin Foster unassisted in the first period to start off the scoring followed by Jamison Moore who tipped in a shot rifled by defenseman Christopher Gabriel.

The defense of Neil Flynn, Dominic Seibold and Owen Pritchard stifled any scoring from the opponent.

Foster scored his second goal of the game on a super pass from Moore early in the second period.

Billy Branca added one unassisted.

Ian McCarthy buried the puck deep in the net when Sean Bradley passed to Jamison Moore who passed the puck to McCarthy.  The offense remained strong during the third period as Jack Eccleston found the back of the net.

Samuel Erickson scored the final goal bringing it to a 7-0 victory.

Jamie Mullin earned the victory in the Squirt B goal.

The following day found Darien Squirt B facing off against Lexington Bedford Revolution on the 1980 Rink.

Jamison Moore led off the scoring on an assist from Sean Bradley in the first period. The defensive momentum belonged to Darien with solid play by Will Stahl and Victor Sarrazin.

Gavin Foster and Billy Branca scored unassisted in the second period.

Jack Eccleston scored assisted by Finn Pokorny and Foster.

Branca netted his second of the game in the third period as did Foster.

Jamie Mullin earned the 6-0 shutout.

Darien again faced off against Lexington in game four of the Round Robin Tournament in the 1980 Arena.

Christopher Gabriel led off the scoring for Darien burying a pass from Owen Pritchard and Jamison Moore.

Billy Branca followed, unassisted.

Next it was Moore on a precise pass from Sean Bradley.

Gavin Foster netted one assisted by Jack Eccleston to bring it to a 4-0 Darien lead.  Eccleston scored early in the second period follwed by Foster on an assist from Finn Pokorny.

Robert Jacobs led off the scoring in the third period on a beautiful pass from Eccleston and followed up with another goal assisted by Branca.

Kevin Kuryla and Neil Flynn were defensive stalwarts turning away the opponents scoring opportunities.

Moore lit the lamp for the last goal of the game on an assist from Charlie von Stade. Darien won 9-0.

Jamie Mullin was solid between the pipes.  Darien had a 3-1 record.

Darien came out skating strong against the Andover Warriors once again on the 1980 rink and was determined to win this time.  Jack Eccleston scored half way throught the first period on an assist form Gavin Foster.  Andover answered back bringing it to 1-1 at the end of the first period.

Jamison Moore scored quickly unassisted in the second period.

Samuel Erickson added one on a pass from Dominic Seibold.

Next it was Gavin Foster on an assist from Jack Eccleston and Finn Pokorny.

Sean Bradley scored the final goal of the game assisted by Moore.

Jamie Mullin was stellar in the 5-1 victory. Darien brought home the gold medal with a final record of 4-1.
