There is now a vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) for a Republican member. This seat will be up for re-election in November 2013. Planning & Zoning Department Director Jeremy Ginsberg confirmed the vacancy was due to resignation of Commissioner Reese Hutchison.
The Commission generally meets about 30 times per year, usually on Tuesday nights. They are comprised of six members and are responsible for reviewing and acting upon land use applications, and also work on long-range planning, including anticipated work on an update to the Town Plan of Conservation and Development in late 2013 or early 2014.
The Darien Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) also is looking for two Republican members, one of which is to fill an existing vacancy. The EPC meets about 15 times per year, usually on Wednesday nights. The EPC reviews applications for activity in and near wetlands and watercourses. It serves as both the Flood and Erosion Control Board and the Town’s Conservation Commission. These EPC seats are positions appointed by the Board of Selectmen.
All candidates who wish to come forth for the Planning & Zoning Commission position submit 1-2 written pages with their background and relevant experience. It should be sent via e-mail to Planning and Zoning Director Jeremy Ginsberg ([email protected]) by Wednesday Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m.
Selected candidates will be invited to interview with the full Commission on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 8:00 p.m., as their first item on that night’s meeting agenda. The Town Clerk will be present that night to swear-in the candidate selected by the Commission, who would then be able to be seated for that evening’s scheduled meeting.
