The Darien Mite A Team, sponsored by Connecticut Property Management, traveled to Norwich to compete in the Rose City Hockey Tournament during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Darien advanced through the tournament with wins over the Southeastern Seahawks and Enfield, and dominated the skills competition when, cheered on by the team, Charlie Coutts, Matthew DellaRusso and Brady Pokorny won two of the three events.
The Mite A went on to meet West Haven for the second time in the championship game.
Darien fought hard with DellaRusso playing his standout game of the tournament in net, making save after save against a relentless West Haven offense.
Throughout the tournament, notable performances came from Kyle Patrick, Grafton Ely and Tauson Pfeifle with multiple goal and assist contributions, and Coutts who anchored the defense while providing offensive firepower and points.
Henry Gregory and Patrick Thurlow hung tough and found scoring opportunities against West Haven, and Ashton Healey, Josephine Williams, Jack Gifford, Carter Hall and Max Benson saw their relentless hustle reflected on the scoreboard against Enfield.
Andrew Gebicki, Pokorny, Gavin Moffatt and George Foster were solid in the group games and the whole team adjusted to deliver their best performance of the tournament in the Championship Game.
West Haven came out on top 6-3, but Darien had much to celebrate in their hard-earned silver medal.
