New Canaan team equipment stolen, urinated on during Turkey Bowl at Darien High School

Darien Police confirmed Friday that there was an incident that occurred during Thursday’s Turkey Bowl involving the New Canaan High School team’s locker room.

“Apparently an equipment bag was stolen and some New Canaan player’s property was urinated on by an individual or individuals while in their locker room,” Captain Fred Komm told The Darien Times Friday.

Komm added that it “doesn’t appear, at this time, that current Darien High School students were involved.”

The matter continues to be under investigation, Komm said.

The rivalry between New Canaan and Darien, especially about the Turkey Bowl,  is legendary and this is not the first time its involved law enforcement.

In 2010, five football players were removed from the team and received a week’s suspension from school for painting graffiti on New Canaan High School property, including a blue letter “D” on the cobblestone entrance, the words “Blue Wave” sprayed on school signs and blue hues painted on a majority of the school’s door handles.

The vandalism happened after midnight Wednesday morning, Nov. 23, 2010, less than 36 hours before the rival schools were to face each other at the annual Turkey Bowl football game on Thanksgiving Day.

Darien High School won its first Turkey Bowl against New Canaan in 11 years 36-23 this week.

Why Is it that some people in Darien just cannot behave and do the right thing? We were really feeling good that finally we were having a Turkey Bowl with out someone being stupid and now this…just unreal. NC has every right to think some people in Darien are a bunch of nasty, destructive idiots because some people in this town have made it obvious they have no consideration for others or their property. Can we maybe try to stay clean for next year or is that asking too much?
