State Rep. Terrie Wood, in accepting her win at the town’s GOP headquarters on the Post Road, said it was “great to have an opponent” this year. Wood has run unopposed for her last two terms. She said her opponent, Democrat Rob Werner, was a fair opponent who stuck to the issues and didn’t get sidetracked. Wood won Darien 5,601 to Werner’s 1,966.
The 141st District also includes Rowayton and the numbers posted do not include absentee ballots.
Though he won Darien, The Hour is reporting GOP challenger Jack Chiaramonte lost to incumbent State Senator Bob Duff by 13,266 votes to Chiaramonte’s 7,602.
In the first challenged Board of Ed race in many years, incumbent Republicans Betsy Hagerty-Ross, board chairman, and Sarah Schneider-Zuro, took in 5,581 and 4,861 votes respectively, were top Board of Ed vote getters.
Democrat Katie Stein also earned the last vacant seat on the board, with 3,960 votes. Democrat Patty McCormick earned 2,832 votes.
Hagerty-Ross thanked the town and Republican Town Committee for support in the new experience of a challenged Board of Ed race. Schneider-Zuro said she was grateful she earned her seat again because “we really believe in our school district and believe the cause of education is worth of our time.”
