GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Blue Wave about began the season battling all out to get by league rival Ludlowe, the team it need not have to beat again to retain the FCIAC crown.
The delayed girls volleyball playoffs start with quarterfinals at home against No. 8 Ridgefield on Tuesday.
But because of a format change to the tournament, brought on by Superstorm Sandy, the No. 1 Wave (18-0) will not tangle with the No. 2 Falcons (17-1) again.
These playoffs halt at the semifinals, with the two teams left standing becoming co-champs.
Ludlowe plays No. 7 Westhill in the quarters, then faces the winner of the Stamford vs. Staples match-up in the semis, while Darien would play the winner of the Greenwich vs. Trumbull match on Wednesday.
The Wave’s early season Sept. 21 win over Ludlowe is featured — along with its all-wins FCIAC regular season celebrated — with a picture scroll below.
