I saw but one temporary stop sign set up in all of my travels in Darien following the storm. We have invested quite a sum in recent years in fancy cars and equipment for the Police Department, including a hillbilly flat-bed and a high-bling factor white undercover sedan (disclosure – I have not been caught speeding, so this is not personal for me). Also rare were railings to close off streets, especially where some drivers were unwisely driving under downed trees supported only by a few cables. The priorities of the town are clearly misguided and voters should remember next year how little the “investments” in the Darien PD have paid off in times of crisis.

Patrol cars sitting idol parked at the new police station. No caution tape or barriers (thankful residents have started making thier own)

The Darien Emergency Message Line listed on the Emergency Operations Center page of the darienct.gov (203)-656-7472 message is that the number will be used to provide updates in the event of an emergency, Guess this does not count.

The lack of information coming from town officials is the most frustrating. I’m still shaking my head at Jayme Stevensons suggestion that we leave the area (“At this time finding shelter with family and friends outside of town should be considered”) – “Jayme Stevenson’s afternoon 10/31 Today is Day 1 post storm” update

These PDF’s mentioned on the Darien Times site (such as this one with the road closures) don’t seem to appear on any system I use. iPad, iPhone, Android, Firefox, etc. Could the site maintainer look into this problem? Thanks.
