UPDATED Monday, Nov. 5 — Winning a county title became easier, by half, thanks to Sandy, and to an FCIAC decision to insure that there is a championship to be played for at all.
And that took some doing after this week’s historic storm knocked the tournament schedule sideways.
“Given the number of schools that are not in session, and given the starting dates of the CIAC Tournaments, the FCIAC has made the following decisions,” a league release stated, as posted at FCIAC.net this afternoon. “Boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey and volleyball will declare co-champions from the semifinals winners.”
The FCIAC tourney slate needs to finish up before the state CIAC playoffs commence.
Updated schedule from Monday, Nov. 5
Original semis dates postponed by the storm, now second seed Wave field hockey will play the third seed Rams 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 at New Canaan for the FCIAC co-championship crown.
Top seed Wilton, the only team to beat Darien this season, will tangle with No. 4 Greenwich for the other co-championship spot at 4.
Volleyball will begin with quarters the same day with top seed DHS hosting Ridgefield, No. 8, time at 4 p.m..
The title swim meet, modified to a timed finals only format, is set to go Nov. 6 at Greenwich at 4 p.m.. Diving is the same day at Westhill at 9:30 a.m.
Football is kicked ahead.
The football regular season will see week No. 8 tilts, which has Darien at Trinity, played on Thursday, Nov. 8, while week nine’s Bassick at Darien game is moved to Nov. 13.
These dates are still yet to be confirmed by DHS.
