Roads, sidewalks not safe — first selectman urges caution

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson is urging residents to stay off roads and sidewalks if at all possible as a precaution during the town’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

Stevenson said despite the dangerous conditions she is still seeing families, including small children, walking by downed power lines and narrowly missing accidents as drivers try to navigate blocked roads.

The town is advising residents to stay home unless it is necessary. Regarding trick-or-treating, Stevenson said “At this time, we feel it would be too unsafe to be outside tomorrow night for Halloween.”

Previously, Stevenson said that if the storm prohibited Halloween festivities, they would be rescheduled to a later date. No update on if or when it might be rescheduled yet.
