Darien girls cross country scored 92 points, beaten out for first by Wilton with 83.

Third was Pomperaug with 103 points.

Johnston finished in 19:46, 10 seconds out of first place, taken by season-long nemesis Cate Allen of Fairfield Warde.

Next for Darien was Grace Loh in fifth in 20:03.

Ellen Bauer was 16th in 20:51, Sarah Colon 26th in 21:17, Katie Farren 42nd in 20:02, Sophie Long 43rd in 22:04.

Said coach Steve Norris: “Difficult to loose to Wilton after having beaten them in the dual meet and in the FCIAC meet.

“Nevertheless we are state runners up.”

Johnston and Loh are all-state, while Bauer ran her best race ever, Norris says.
