Wreaths Across America sponsorships solicited

Wreaths Across America wreath sponsorships at $15 each will be sold on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 to 2, at Palmer’s Market on Heights Road. Wreath Sponsorships will also be sold at the Darien Doughnut on Heights Road from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, and on two Sundays, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. at Goodwives Stop & Shop.

These wreaths will be placed on veterans’ graves in Darien’s Spring Grove Veterans’ Cemetery at noon on Dec. 15. Several Commissioners from Darien’s Monuments & Ceremonies Commission have volunteered their time along with members of Good Wife’s River Chapter DAR, and members of the Captain David Hawley Chapter, Children of the American Revolution.

Also joining in collecting money for wreaths will be members of the local VFW Post #6933 and other local civic groups helping to man the tables at these locations on subsequent Saturdays and Sundays.

In 2011, Wreaths Across America marked the 20th anniversary of the Worcester Wreath Company donating wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery.

It is hoped again this year that a wreath for every one of the graves of over 250,000 veterans will make the journey from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia this year.

The ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Arlington. In addition to these wreaths, The Worcester Wreath Company continues its tradition of donating seven ceremonial wreaths to each cemetery requesting them, and selling additional wreaths to adorn the graves of veterans in over 410 state,  national and local cemeteries, 24 foreign cemeteries and Naval ships on all the Seven Seas. The public is invited to attend the simultaneous wreath-laying ceremony to be held at Darien’s Spring Grove Veteran’s Cemetery, at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The public is also invited to call 656-0003 to contact VFW Commander, Phil Kraft to sponsor a Darien wreath.
