LWV to hold two election season events

Darien Election Button 2012 preview

The Darien League of Women Voters has two events planned before the Nov. 6 election with its significance for our local as well as national contests.

For the first time in over 20 years, there is a contested race for the Board of Education — four candidates running for three open seats.  The Darien League of Women Voters and the Council of Darien School Parents will host a candidates forum on Thursday, Oct. 18 in the auditorium of the Darien Library.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the formal program, moderated by Charlotte Garrell will run from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

The four Board of Education candidates, incumbents and Republicans Betsy Hagerty-Ross and Sarah Schneider-Zuro, and new candidates, Democrats Patty McCormick and Katie Stein, will each deliver a brief opening statement and then answer questions submitted by the audience.

The second event is the annual Darien League of Women Voters Candidates’ Night on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Town Hall. The Norwalk and Stamford Leagues are co-sponsoring the evening. Featured will be the candidates for state Senate, and State Representative. The evening begins with a reception in the lobby at 7 p.m. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. with a “Debate and Discussion of Issues.” The moderator will be Kay Maxwell former National President of the League.  Again, a question period will follow the presentations by the candidates.
